About the name…

We get a lot of people wondering why the cutest cafe in the world is called CrashMurderBusiness? Many years ago two idiots were sitting in a coffee shop and one idiot shared the fun fact that a group of ferrets is called a ‘business’. This led to many jokes about business ferrets… and ferrets in business attire… and what business casual looks like for ferrets…etc. Anyway. This increasingly absurd conversation led to looking up the collective nouns of various animals and the pledge to someday open a business (see what we did there?) called CrashMurderBusiness, where we would bring ferrets in ties in our suit pockets on Fridays (just go with it). Flash forward a few years and one of the idiots decided to actually do it, (unbeknownst to the other*), and CrashMurderBusiness Coffee was born.

Turns out that live ferrets are not allowed in food establishments (we have decided this is probably for the best), but the name lives on to confuse and delight people around the world.

Ultimate- tiny bit deeper- reason the first idiot decided to go forward with the name? Add a ‘the’ and it becomes Crash the Murder Business. A small stand against the violence so pervasive in modern culture and the capitalistic reinforcement of prejudice and racism in America. Kinda intense? Maybe. But something worth talking about. Preferably over really tasty coffee…

*But it’s okay because the second idiot ended up building the website and is typing all of this right now and he’s worked through this monumental betrayal in therapy. He gets free coffee and figures that’s probably a good deal in the end because running a coffee shop actually looks like kind of a lot of work and he has other things to do. Website by rebelmedia.com
